What to do in the first hour
Power the iPhone off and leave it off. Electricity and liquid together cause short circuits that destroy components which would otherwise have survived. A phone that is off and wet is in far better shape than a phone that is on and wet.
Do not charge it. Putting current through a wet charging port is the single most common way a recoverable iPhone becomes unrecoverable. The "liquid detected" warning exists for this reason — do not override it.
Do not put it in rice. Rice does not draw moisture out of a sealed phone. It does introduce starch dust into the ports and speakers, and it delays the only thing that actually helps, which is opening and cleaning the device. This is the most persistent myth in phone repair and it costs people their phones.
Do not use a hairdryer or radiator. Heat drives moisture deeper into the device and can damage the display and battery.
Keep it upright, and bring it in. Every hour matters. Corrosion begins as soon as liquid meets a powered or unpowered circuit board, and it does not stop on its own.
Why liquid damage is different from every other iPhone repair
A cracked screen is a known part with a known price. Liquid damage is not a single fault — it is an ongoing chemical process. Liquid carries dissolved minerals and salts, and when the water evaporates those deposits remain on the circuit board, drawing moisture from the air and corroding tracks and connections over days and weeks.
This is why an iPhone can appear to work perfectly after a spill and then fail a fortnight later. The phone was never fine; the corrosion had simply not yet reached anything critical.

What liquid does, by type
Clean water. The least damaging, but not harmless — tap water carries minerals that leave conductive deposits behind.
Salt water. Considerably more aggressive. Sea water corrodes rapidly and is one of the most urgent cases ExpressTech sees.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and alcohol. Sugars and acids are far worse than water. Sugar leaves a sticky conductive residue that bridges connections and attracts more moisture.
Toilet or pool water. Chlorine and other chemicals accelerate corrosion beyond what plain water does.
The type of liquid genuinely changes the prognosis, so tell ExpressTech what it was. There is no benefit in being vague about it, and it changes how the device is treated.
Symptoms after liquid contact
The iPhone will not power on at all. A short circuit or a protection cutout. Not necessarily terminal, but urgent.
It powers on but the screen is discoloured, dim, or shows patches. Liquid has reached the display assembly. The display may need replacing even if the phone is otherwise recovered.
Speakers or microphones are muffled, or people cannot hear you. Liquid in the acoustic mesh. Sometimes this clears; often the component needs replacing.
The battery drains rapidly or the phone runs hot. Corrosion creating leakage paths on the board. This tends to worsen.

An older iPhone with extensive board corrosion can cost more to attempt than the phone is worth, with no guaranteed outcome and no warranty. Where the cost of attempting recovery approaches the price of a good replacement handset, that is the conversation ExpressTech will have with you — rather than starting work and reporting bad news later.
If the phone's value to you is the data rather than the device, say so at the start. That changes what is worth attempting, and it is a legitimate reason to proceed where a straight repair would not be.

My iPhone just got wet. What should I do right now?
Power it off and keep it off. Do not charge it, and do not try to turn it on to check if it works: that is when most extra damage happens. Do not put it in rice, which does nothing for the corrosion inside and wastes time you do not have. Keep the device upright and still, and get it to us as quickly as you can. Liquid keeps corroding inside after the outside feels dry, so the first hours give the best chance of recovery.
What does the liquid damage service include, and what does it cost?

Can a water damaged iPhone be saved?
Often, especially when it is treated quickly, but with liquid damage no outcome can be promised. Corrosion affects every device differently. What we promise instead is honesty: after the assessment we tell you exactly what we found, what works, what does not, and whether a repair is worth your money before you decide anything.
How long does liquid damage treatment take?
