Cracked screen

My screen is cracked or damaged

Most screen damage is repairable, and often faster than people expect. Cracked glass, a black display, green or coloured lines, and unresponsive touch are all front-screen faults that we repair. This is different from the glass on the back of the phone, which is a separate repair.

If glass is sharp or lifting, stop using the screen and keep it in a case or bag. Small shards can cut fingers and can damage the display underneath.

What you might be seeing

Cracked or shattered glass, display still works

The picture is fine but the front glass is cracked. A standard screen repair.

Black, blank or half-black display

The screen is dark or partly dark after a knock. A front-screen fault, not the back glass.

Green, pink or coloured lines, or flickering

Lines or flicker across the display are a screen fault. This is a screen repair, never a back-glass repair.

Touch not responding, or ghost touches

Touch is dead, patchy, or taps by itself. The digitiser in the screen has been affected.

Display works but glass is sharp or lifting

Still usable, but glass is sharp or the panel is lifting. Worth repairing before it worsens.

The back of the device is cracked

If it is the rear glass that is broken, that is a separate back-glass repair, not a screen repair.

Likely causes, and what to do

Do

  • Keep the screen in a case or bag to contain glass
  • Back up your device if it still works safely
  • Note whether it is the front screen or the back glass
  • Bring it in, or book collection, sooner rather than later

Do not

  • Do not press hard on a cracked or lifting display
  • Do not pick at loose glass with your fingers
  • Do not assume coloured lines mean the phone is beyond repair
  • Do not confuse a cracked back with a cracked screen

Screen damage is usually repairable

Cracked glass, black or blank displays, coloured lines and unresponsive touch are almost always a screen repair, and same day for most models. A repair fits a new screen assembly, so a working picture is not required for us to help. If the back glass is cracked instead, that is a separate repair.

Common questions

My screen shows green or coloured lines. Is that a screen repair or a back-glass repair?

Green, pink or coloured lines and flickering are a screen fault, so they are a screen repair. They are never a back-glass repair. Back-glass repair is only for cracked glass on the back of the device.

The glass is cracked but the display still works. Should I still repair it?

Yes, usually. Cracked glass can spread, let in dust or moisture, and cut fingers, and the touch layer can fail later. Repairing sooner protects the working display underneath.

The screen is black after a drop. Is it fixable?

Almost always. A black or blank display after a knock is a front-screen fault, and a screen repair fits a new assembly. A working picture is not needed for us to help.

Touch is not responding. Is that the same repair?

Yes. Touch that is dead, patchy or taps by itself is the digitiser in the screen, which is part of the screen repair.
