Your Right to Repair. Our Commitment.
The EU Right to Repair Directive (March 2024) confirms what we have practised in Dublin since 2007. Independent repair, on your terms, with your data treated carefully.

What the EU Right to Repair Directive means
The European Union adopted the Right to Repair Directive in March 2024. Member states must transpose it into national law by 2026. The directive gives consumers the right to choose independent repair providers, and requires manufacturers to make spare parts, tools and repair information available.
For device owners in Ireland, this means you have the legal right to have your iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Samsung or any other device repaired by a qualified independent repairer rather than being forced to return to the original manufacturer. The directive covers smartphones, tablets, laptops and other consumer electronics.
This is a significant shift. It puts consumers in control of where, how and at what cost their devices are repaired.
Why independent repairers matter
Independent repair businesses like ExpressTech offer faster turnaround, lower costs, and local expertise compared to manufacturer-controlled repair programmes. We diagnose and repair devices at component level, not by replacing entire assemblies at inflated prices.
When a manufacturer quotes hundreds of euros for a full unit replacement, an independent repairer can often fix the specific fault for a fraction of the cost. This is better for consumers, better for business customers, and better for the environment.
Independent repair also supports local economies. ExpressTech employs technicians in Dublin 2, serves schools and businesses across Ireland, and keeps repair expertise close to the customer.
Data first, device second
At ExpressTech, we take a data-first approach to every repair. Your personal data is never accessed, transferred or erased during any hardware repair. This is a fundamental part of how we work, not an afterthought.
For liquid damage cases, we prioritise data recovery before attempting device repair. We will always tell you the data situation before proceeding with any work. This approach reflects what the Right to Repair is really about: putting the consumer first.
Environmental impact
- 53M tonnes of e-waste generated globally each year (industry estimates)
- 80% of a device's carbon footprint comes from manufacturing, not use
- 2 to 3x longer device lifespan when repaired instead of replaced
Every device we repair is a device that stays out of landfill. Extending the life of electronics through professional repair is one of the most effective ways to reduce e-waste. The Right to Repair Directive recognises this by making repair the first option, not the last resort.
