The price is agreed first

You get the price before any work begins. If we find something else, we stop and tell you rather than adding it to the bill.

What it costs to find out

The exact price is confirmed before any work begins. Complex faults, including liquid damage, no-power, intermittent faults and logic board issues, carry a €30 diagnostic fee. If you go ahead with the quoted repair, the €30 is credited in full toward the repair cost. If the device cannot be repaired, no repair charge applies beyond any agreed diagnostic or assessment fee.

ExpressTech repairs every iPad Air generation at its Dublin 2 workshop and by nationwide Collection & Return across Ireland, from the original iPad Air through the Air 2, 3, 4 and 5 to the current 11-inch and 13-inch M4 models. Screen replacement, battery replacement and liquid damage diagnostics are the repairs carried out on this family.

iPad Air screen and battery replacements are usually completed the same day. The exact price is confirmed up front where the fault is clear, and liquid damage carries a €30 diagnostic fee, credited in full toward the repair if you go ahead.

You can walk in Monday to Saturday at Dublin 2 without an appointment. If you are outside Dublin, Collection & Return runs Monday to Friday for €30 flat per shipment, round trip, tracked and insured, door to door. Both routes are the same repair, by the same technicians, at the same price.

ExpressTech has been trusted across Ireland since 2007 and holds 1,000+ Google reviews at 4.5 stars. Every repair is priced and confirmed with you before any work begins.

Which iPad Air do you have, and what it means for the repair

Identifying your iPad Air

The iPad Air changed shape twice, which makes the generations easier to separate than most iPads.

A round Home button below the screen means an iPad Air 1, 2 or 3. No Home button, squared-off edges and a power button that doubles as Touch ID means an Air 4 or later. The current models come in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, and the 13-inch is the first genuinely large Air.

To confirm exactly, open Settings, then General, then About, and read Model Name, or read the A-number printed on the back. ExpressTech identifies it on arrival at no cost.

The laminated-display divide, and why it changes the price

This is the single most useful thing to know about repairing an iPad Air, because the family straddles a genuine engineering change.

On the earliest Air models the glass and the display panel were separate layers. On later generations they are laminated into one sealed assembly, the same construction as an iPad Pro.

The consequence is direct. On a laminated model, cracked glass means replacing the whole assembly, because the glass cannot be separated from the panel without destroying it. That is a more expensive part and a more demanding repair than the earlier construction. If you have owned an older iPad and are expecting a similar price, the difference is real and it is not a markup.

What this family comes in for

Cracked screens lead, and the reason is how iPads get used. A tablet is carried in one hand, used on a lap, and handed to other people, and it lands flat when dropped. That flat landing spreads impact across a large panel rather than concentrating it in a corner as a phone does.

Batteries are second, and they show up most on Airs that live on a charger. Sustained charging at high temperature ages a cell faster than ordinary use. iPad batteries fall between €100 and €150 depending on the model.

If the display has begun lifting away from the chassis at any edge, that is a swelling battery pressing on the screen from behind. Stop charging it and bring it in, because leaving it turns one repair into two.

Before you book

If the iPad Air will not turn on, force a restart first. On models with a Home button, hold Home and the top button together. On newer models, press volume up, then volume down, then hold the top button.

If it charges slowly or not at all, try a different cable and a mains adapter rather than a computer USB port, and check the port with a torch for compacted pocket lint.

If touch is erratic only while charging, change the charger. Poor-quality adapters upset touchscreens, and that is not a fault worth paying to fix.

Your data

Your data is not accessed, transferred or erased during a standard hardware repair, and the device is not wiped in order to repair it. Keep a backup as a general precaution, because hardware that is already failing can fail further during a repair.

For liquid damage, data recovery cannot be guaranteed by ExpressTech or by anyone else.

When an iPad Air is not worth repairing

On an iPad Air 1 or 2, a screen replacement can cost a large share of what the device is worth today, particularly given how little software support those generations still receive. ExpressTech will say so plainly rather than quote it without comment.

On an Air 4 or later the calculation is different and repair is usually clearly worthwhile. The honest answer depends on which generation you are holding, which is why identifying it first matters.

Warranty

Every completed repair at ExpressTech is backed by a 12-month warranty on parts and workmanship. It covers faulty parts and workmanship, but does not cover new accidental damage, misuse or unrelated faults after the repair.

Liquid damage repairs are excluded from the 12-month warranty due to the risk of ongoing corrosion, and this is explained before any liquid damage work is approved.

Common questions about iPad Air repairs

How long does it take? Screen and battery replacements are usually completed the same day. Liquid damage is diagnostic work and the time depends on the fault.

Will Touch ID still work afterwards? Yes, when the original component is intact and transferred. Touch ID hardware is paired to the device at the factory, so if it is itself damaged no repairer can replace it, Apple included.

My iPad Air is cracked but works perfectly. Can I leave it? You can, but the crack lets dust and moisture reach the panel, and a straightforward screen replacement can become a more expensive repair. It is better done sooner.

Do you repair the Apple Pencil connection? Pencil behaviour depends on the display and logic board, so tell ExpressTech if the Pencil stopped working at the same time as anything else. It forms part of the testing.

Will I lose my data? No. The iPad is not wiped in order to repair it.

The questions people actually ask.

How long does a iPad Air repair take?

Most repairs are completed the same day at our Dublin 2 workshop, and we confirm turnaround before any work begins. Visit any time during opening hours, no appointment needed. For Local Collection & Return customers, allow 3 to 4 working days.

Is my data safe during the repair?

Yes. We do not access your data during standard hardware repairs, and it is never accessed, transferred or erased unless you explicitly ask us to carry out a data-related service. We recommend keeping a backup as a general precaution.

What warranty do you provide on iPad Air repairs?

Every iPad Air repair comes with a 12-month warranty on parts and workmanship. If a fault related to the repair appears within that period, we fix it at no charge.

Do you offer iPad Air repairs nationwide?

Yes. Walk in to our Dublin 2 workshop, post your device to us from anywhere in Ireland, or book Local Collection & Return in Dublin and local areas (€30 flat per shipment, round trip). Every repair is done at our Dublin 2 workshop. VAT invoices available for all business and school repairs. Trusted since 2007 with over 1,000 Google reviews.
