Liquid damage

Liquid damage: first aid, and what to do next.

If your device has been in liquid, the first hour matters. Power it off, keep it off, and get it to us quickly. The sooner corrosion is treated, the better the chance of recovery, though with liquid damage no outcome can be promised.

First aid, in the first hour

Do

  • Power the device off and leave it off
  • Dry the outside and remove a case or cover
  • Keep it upright and still
  • Bring it in as soon as you can

Do not

  • Do not charge it or plug anything in
  • Do not press buttons or try to turn it on
  • Do not use heat, a hairdryer or an oven
  • Do not put it in rice, it does not draw out corrosion

We are honest about what liquid damage can and cannot promise.

Treatment can restore function, but corrosion can keep working inside a device after a repair. Because long-term stability cannot be guaranteed, liquid damage repairs are not covered by the 12-month warranty. We explain this clearly before any work begins.

Why corrosion keeps going after the device dries

The water itself is rarely the lasting problem. The damage comes from what the liquid leaves behind. Tap water, sea water, coffee and soft drinks all carry minerals, salts and sugars that stay on the circuit board once the liquid evaporates.

Those deposits hold moisture and conduct electricity where they should not. Over hours and days they corrode the tiny contacts and connections inside the device, even when the outside feels completely dry. That is why a phone can seem fine for a day or two and then fail, and why drying on its own does not fix liquid damage.

It is also why speed matters. The sooner the residue is cleaned and the corrosion treated, the better the chance of recovery. Turning the device on, or charging it, while that residue is still inside is what causes most of the lasting harm.

What we do

1. Diagnose

Liquid damage is a complex fault, so it carries a €30 diagnostic. If you go ahead with the repair, the €30 is credited toward it.

2. Treat

We open the device, clean corrosion and treat the affected areas to give recovery the best chance.

3. Test

We test the functions we can, and tell you honestly what is working and what is not.

4. Honest outcome

You get a clear picture of what we found and what to expect, with no promises we cannot keep.

Why liquid damage is diagnosis-led

No two liquid-damaged devices are the same. Liquid can affect the battery, the charging circuit, the screen, the cameras or the logic board, in any combination. Until the device is opened and inspected, the true extent is not visible, so there is no single fixed price and no guaranteed outcome for liquid damage.

That is why we start with a diagnostic. Liquid damage is a complex fault, so it carries a €30 diagnostic fee, and if you go ahead with the repair the €30 is credited in full toward it. Diagnostic time depends on the fault. If we find further damage once the device is open, we explain it clearly and confirm the cost with you before carrying out any additional work.

Two things to know

Back up if you can

If the device still powers on safely, back it up. We recommend a backup before any repair as a general precaution, and we do not access your personal data during standard hardware repairs. How we keep data safe.

Warranty exclusion, explained up front

Liquid damage repairs are excluded from the 12-month warranty because corrosion can continue. We always explain this before any work begins. Read the warranty.

Questions about liquid damage

What should I do if my phone gets wet?

Power it off and leave it off, dry the outside, keep it upright and still, and bring it in as soon as you can. Do not charge it or try to turn it on, because that is when more damage happens.

Does putting it in rice work?

No. Rice does not draw corrosion out of a device, and the delay while you wait gives corrosion more time to spread. The better step is to power off and get it treated quickly.

Is liquid damage covered by the warranty?

No. Treatment can restore function, but corrosion can continue afterwards, so liquid damage repairs are excluded from the 12-month warranty. We explain this clearly before any work begins.

Can you save a water-damaged phone?

Often, yes, especially if it is treated quickly, but no outcome can be promised with liquid damage. We run a diagnostic, treat the corrosion, test what we can, and give you an honest picture before you decide.

Why does corrosion keep damaging my phone after it dried?

Liquid leaves minerals, salts and sugars behind on the circuit board. Those deposits hold moisture and corrode the contacts inside over hours and days, even when the outside feels dry. That is why drying on its own does not fix liquid damage, and why fast treatment gives the best chance of recovery.

Why can you not give a fixed price for liquid damage?

Because the extent is only clear once the device is opened and inspected. Liquid can affect the battery, charging, screen or logic board in any combination. We run a €30 diagnostic, which is credited toward the repair if you proceed, and we confirm any cost with you before carrying out further work.
